Chapter A: The beginning
January/February 2008
Special announcement concerning this website:
I have, as the rest of you, just
received the latest edition of the magazine.
As you will have noted there is now a NEW website address with a .net
extension to it and some praise which belittles what was actually done,
by myself for having put the old website (this one) together.
Let it be noted that I did not SIMPLY
manipulate images and text but TOTALLY designed the look and layout of
the website. Those in the know will understand. Also I used my search
engine optimisation skills to get the website well placed on Google and
other listings and as far as image manipulation is concerned you need
just look at the differences between those pictures on the new website
and the same ones on this one to see the difference. By the way I NEVER
manipulated text but simply copied and pasted it in and addressed the
font, size and colour as well as seeing that it looked good, well laid
out on the page making reading it easy...... NO BIG DEAL really !!
I will, therefore, take this
opportunity, as this website is no longer recognised, by the committee
as your official representation, to give you all my views on this
change.
In spite of my having put over 300 hours of work into the layout,
graphical and general optimisation work of your website over these past
6 years, I was notified, some months ago, to hand over all the products
of my efforts to a new member, SPECIALLY parachuted into a position on
the committee, Mr AD Durnin who was to act as your new WEBMASTER.
He was to use the fruit of my efforts, to continue the work, IS THIS
FAIR I ask you, without my consent?
There is nothing wrong with all this, fair enough, however, my opinion
was not asked and basically I was put in front of a 'fait ac compli'
with no say on the matter whatsoever, as if I didn't exist.
In your magazine it states that there
was a problem with the transfer of information, due to the lack of time
required for Graham and Steve to 'feed' it to me. What it does not say
is that I was not asked if I was willing to assume further
responsibilities in order to reduce their workload.
Kindly note that the information 'fed'
to me was very little indeed and I made many suggestions as to ways of
improving the website and its contents to the committee. I would have
thought that the decent and polite thing to do would have been to ask me
to take on the job, as Mr Durnin, seemingly now has done. No I heard
nothing until being asked to transfer everything over.
In my mind this is no way to treat a
fellow member, who has, over these many years, since 1984 to be exact,
helped the club both financially, as some of you will be able to vouch
for and intellectually with the creation and work done on your website.
I therefore REFUSED to hand over the
domains and my intellectual property contained in them, which had, as a
result, this NEW .net amateurish effort.
I asked the committee, through
correspondence with John Tiffney, that they reconsider and that I was
prepared, if required to do so, to work with Mr Durnin and if not then
assume the full responsibility and extra work MYSELF. Up till now no
response received.
I feel, as the magazine, does urge us
to have a look at the new job, that we indeed transmit to them (the
committee) our comments. I for one feel that this new website is nowhere
near as professionally constructed and the presentation and layout is to
say the least 'quite amateurish'.
This is not to denigrate the work but as my sincere opinion as a fellow
member of this club and expressed as suggested by the article itself and
to my mind considering I have never received a 'VERY VERY GOOD JOB'
mention for my work, in fact very little praise indeed (not that I want
it mind you), that this is FAR FAR FAR TOO COMPLEMENTARY. I wonder if
there is an underlying issue here to see me off in this way?
To further prove my point I have taken
the 'index' or 'home' page of the new .net website and spent a few hours
'tuning' it up just to show you all out there what the differences are
between a fully 'amateurish' attempt and one which has been slightly
professionally enhanced. Simply click on this link :
Revised pre-1940triumphonersclub.NET 'home' page
I believe that this will show exactly
what I mean and your views would be most appreciated. To get in touch my
email address is george_zaidmann@yahoo.co.uk
I have, on the strength of the 'new'
(very scarce) content, on the .net website, updated this (.ORG) website in
order to show what can be done by someone with more experience and
artistic flair and ask you to express your opinions to the committee or
to me as well as to your preferences.
I will be keeping this website updated
to the end of this year, however, after that it will be removed.
I urge you, therefore, to continue
using it and I will be keeping you all fully informed as to
developments.
In my opinion I have been subject to a
great injustice and feel very insulted by this whole episode, in fact so
much so that I am now seriously contemplating never to show my Triumph cars on a PNTOC event ever again.
No good is being done to the club in
creating a rift of this sort between a long standing honourable member
who has given FREELY his time and money in helping our club provide a
service to the benefit of all members.
Yours sincerely,
A very disgusted and disappointed
member.
