Dear George,
I wrote a letter to you some weeks ago and am still awaiting a reply-it
could be caught up in the Postal strike of course. AD durnin our new
committee member also sent you an e-mail I gather and has not heard from
you. We are very keen to update the website-a couple of cars are to be
advertised for example. Would you be kind enough to contact AD re
handing over the web master function,
regards John Tiffney
Hello John,
I do remember having received a letter some 3 to 4 weeks ago relieving
me of my responsibilities of the club's website and asking me to hand
things over to AD Durnin.
I feel a bit hurt about this as the only reason given was that the
committee felt that the webmaster be a committee member.
I was not asked whether or not I would accept a post within the
committee structure and AD Durnin was simply 'parachuted' in the
position and I have unceremoniously been put into a position of 'fait
accomply' which I find quite insulting.
I put a lot of effort and thought, in the beginning, which is when all
the work is required in setting up the club's website and now I am asked
to hand this over to a person whom I do not know, have never met, do not
know whether or not he owns a pre-war Triumph nor if he has been a
member of our club for any length of time, perhaps even recruited to the
club through the website itself, through my own doing so to speak.
I am very sorry but I feel that I have been treated quite shabbily and I
have, under the circumstances, no intention of handing anything over to
anyone.
Furthermore I was asked, at a time when the club was left in the lurch
by a previous webmaster, to construct a website, which I did with much
pleasure and from the response I received I gathered that it was very
well designed and original. I enjoyed doing it all very much especially
as I was under the impression that what I was doing and had done, was
something important for the club. This gave me much satisfaction so if
AD Durnin wishes to construct a new club website, by all means, however,
I will expect that he not use any of my intellectual property or design
and start from scratch so to speak
I am very sorry that things have come to this, however, in view of the
circumstances and my views as explained in this message, you will
understand why I have chosen to take this line of action.
It is not gratifying to know that one has been treated in a shabby way
and the least the committee could have done was to ask me if i would
join the board and if required work with AD in order to make the website
even better than it is at present. Their actions were disrespectful to
my mind and therefore insulting to me.
I did not receive an email message from AD, however, in all truth, the
message may have been blocked by my firewall as there is a filtering
system installed.
I was not altogether happy either when David Main came onto the scene,
once again my opinion was not asked and I was most surprised when my
name was removed from the accreditation in the magazine and that all
matters concerning the website be dealt with by him, which, simply means
that he passes things on to me and that I do the work.
This I did not mind too much and let it pass, however, I have no
intention to let this matter pass in the same way.
I feel that you will understand the motivation of my decision on this
matter.
Kind regards,
George
